Some more suggestions for VB.

1 - Code buttons, when in the post message panel, have buttons that will insert the tags for bold text and other such things for you. Asking the user to type in [ b ] etc is insane these days. They should press a button (like Ubb hack called ubb code buttons 1.3) to have the ubb like formatting tags inserted for them. Easy enough to develop I would have thought.

2 - Allow users to choose own title when reaching a certain level.

3 - Private messaging (like the UBB hack).

4 - Avatar support.

5 - File attachment support.

6 - Gender field in profile.

7 - Polls/Survey feature.

8 - Chat room feature or integration (share id/passwords).

9 - Allow user to change their own username.

Check the UBB hacks for anything else people like a lot!

While we're checking the UBB hacks, why don't you check the vB hacks. Private messaging and Avatar hacks already exist. File attachment support, Gender field in profile, Polls/Survey feature, Chat room feature and integration are planned for future releases (I believe).

Letting the user change their own user names has already beed discussed, and was decided that it would not ever happen.

The main reason I would switch to VB is NOT to have to hack.

I want features BUILT IN, upgradeable without re-working.

Otherwise I may as well stick with UBB with it's better support and greater user-base.

Expecting customers to have to modify source code to get decent features is a "world gone mad".

What do you think InfoPop are doing with OpenTopic - quietly building in all the hacks and more.

Do the same with VB and hundreds will switch.

Hacking VB now - with a new "release" every other day would
sure be a thankless task.

I want to see how responsive Jelsoft is to user-requests compared to the not-very-responsive InfoPop.

Can I add some more requests:

A - Top posters ranking list (or selectable in member list)

B - SSI support eg extract active the topics for homepage SSI

Clearly all these will take time, why not list them and let users here vote on their most urgent. User driven development priorities - that's the way to go.

It already has that option in the memberlist.

Thanks for the suggestions there. Many of those are planned to be written / included from hacks in future version. We are commited to including hacks into the software if we deem them suitable (see the member list for example!). There is no point in us reinventing the wheel by re writing them.

Thanks,
John
