Its only $29 a month but does it need any additional options to use with vB? e.g the Microsoft SQL Server or would the basic $29 package do?

Im not smart enough to run something like that, standard it just has the linux or windows admin system, without L panel and Cpanel pre-setup I just couldnt figure anything out these days...haha
check out http://www.eleven2.com they have VPS starting at $39 monthly and I think it offers a little more standard, and I am sure support would answer all questions that you might have.

That's not a good offer, since they'll sock you on support tickets and more.
Expect a lot of handholding on the initial setup (DNS issues/software installs, etc), and your tickets can be way more than 2/mo on the first month (especially if the install didn't go right). Being VPS, you'll still rely on them to resolve server issues outside VPS. You'll get root access to manage your domain (unless it's UML, which you'll have only limited access), but not to the server ports, etc.
One IP also limits you to sharing their nameservers. You'll need at least 2 IPs to have your own.
Don't expect much on 256mb. I had a VPS with 256mb and after the security apps were installed 60% of the memory was used. Won't go far on a forum.
For a working forum of 100 members and your security ware installed, look for 512mbs. It'll give you some spare memory, so you won't be hitting that awful swap disk as much.
As for what vBulletin needs, common client packages like WHM/Cpanel and Hsphere and such usually come with the services you need preinstalled. All you'll need to do is create a database and db user, setup the config.php and install it. Highly recommend Cpanel or Hsphere front-end clients, since they make it easier to run a server (unfortunately there's a monthly rent fee for them).
Best bet, if you can afford it, is just get a cheap celeron to start out with. They're in the price range of high end VPS, and you'll have more options.

I puchased a VPS from ServInt.com for $49/mo. They charge the same weather you want to use cPanel, Plesk or just plain RedHat.
I chose to go with the plain RedHat since it would save me resources, and even that I dont realy know how to use the command line to configure the server, ServInt fixed everything up for me and manage everything too.
I chose them after I read all the great reviews and so far their support is increadible.
But theres obviously still a learning curve no matter what VPS you choose.

I have used serverpronto and I am absolutely NOT in favour of using them. They have one of the worst ever service. I bought a dedicated server, and was in process of moving my data, the server broke down server times without any notification. After less than 14 day, I asked to terminate my contract and refund my fee - nothing happend :p
