Hi.

My site currently runs on a Celeron 2.0 with 512MB of RAM.

The server is reaching its limits, with almost 500 users online (90 registered) at peak times (max users online 824).

I'm talking with my hosting company and they offer me a P4 2.8 or a Sempron 3100 for the same price. I'm going to use it with 1Gig of ram.

What's best processor for vBulletin 3 with my specs? They recommend the AMD solution because of the less power requirements of the AMD processor, but I want to take advice from real vBulletin owners with more experience.

Thanks for your comments.

Update!!!

//This is what my hosting company has to say about AMD processors:

NO!
Xeon and Opteron > P4 and AMDXP
P4 >~ AMDXP
P4 and AMDXP > Celeron and Semperon

Semperon is a CELERON type processor, meaning lower cache.

Might as well get a AMD XP 1800+ :)

I highly recommend obtain dual P4 Xeon or some AMD64 with 1GB of memory. It is ideal for forums.

I'm going for the P4 2.8 with 1GB... Don't have money for a dual P4, and my forums doesn't require that amount of power right now :)
