Celeron, move away.
Peak hours of 800-1000 might required up to a Dual Xeon with SCSI or dual setup.

If you would like some sort of recomendation, you will need to give us the stats of your forums, ect.
But, as a small fact, Xeons and Opterons are better than P4's and AMDXPs. P4's are overall abit better suited than AMDXP's. P4's and AMDXP's both out class Celerons and Sempterons.
After Processors, ram is the next most important thing.

For 800-1000 active users on your board at a peak time might require two dual xeon servers. One would function as the web server and the other as the database server. Just out of curiousity, what is the cookie timeout on your forum set to? What is the average load on your current server?
For a dedicated server, I recommend The Planet or ServerMatrix.

The cookie time out i let the default is 900 ( should i change this )
The average load is 0.20-30 it goes like 3 -5 + some time and mysql time out like 5 -10 second when it hit hard .
beside i'm on semi dedicated that with other site that why server got more load than it supposed to .
i want to move to dedicated but my forum just for teen and never have any financial support or banner ad so i'm sticking with semi right now.i want to upgrade thou but the celeron seem not good like Zach said and might be weaker than the semi dedicated.

You can do this with one dual 2.8 xeon server with around 3 or 4 gig of ram without issue, and use scsi drives. We are running one now just like this and they average between 450 and 2000 users online daily.
