I need help with Putty

I am backing up my database using Putty, I have NO IDEA of how to use the program, I have all my usernames and passwords. I just need someone to guide me a little by little on how to backup the database. I have 5 days until I terminate my current webhosting service. Please help me if you can, I have to at least know how to back it up.

I opened Putty and typed my domain name there, I don't know if what I'm doing is right.

I click on "Open" and then this black window pops up

I cannot type anything here though. :S

What am I doing wrong?

You should be seeing a login prompt like this:
login as: or similar.

Make sure you have permission to use SSH, and I'd suggest trying it with the IP address instead of the domain name as well.

Hmmm... nothing shows up and I see a warning saying "Connection Time Out" !!!!

You might be on a windows host, or a host who has changed their SSH login to another port.

I use the IP to access mine, also make sure the port is correct @ 22, I have to use a different port to use SSH on my server. Might be worth check with your host.

I'd like to try accessing it by IP but I do not know the IP of my website. The domain is http://www.oman3d.com could someone please help me out.

The domain or the IP will work, both point to the same place. Since yo are having trouble accessing the shell, you should contact your hostfor more help.

If the port is not 22 most default servers then you would get the following error
