Hi, I invested in the gallery about 2 months ago and then I found out my server does not have GD! So now I can use my gallery and its hurting my site not to have one.
Do you guys know where I can find a reliable server for about $15 a month with 1000mb disk ad 30-40 gigs of band.
Any suggestions are welcome, thanks a lot

Have you tried asking them to install it through technical support? I'm sure your current host would be happy to do it for you, if they care about yoru business.
My host (micfo.com) have GD installed on their servers (and if they don't have it, they'll install pretty much anything you ask them to.. tech support is great with that). For $15/month you could get 2000 MB Space, and 80GB Bandwidth.

I cannot believe what hosting is coming to these days, theres no realsitic way for a host to make money with for 15 dollars a month providing you with 2GB of storage and 80GB of data transfer. Unless they intend to only shove as many people on the server as its possible.

It's not that hard when you look at the math.
You can get a dual xeon for about $299 per month (with 2000 GB Bandwidth).
If you sell your packages at $15 per month, then you breakeven point is at 20 users. At 40 users you make 100% profit.
Anyways, I haven't had any complaints about the performance of it, and my vb isn't big enough to require dedicated or vps yet.. so they've been great for my situation at least :)

Yes, I am aware, I have one.
However, 40 people, using 2GB each is 80GB.
and 40 people using 80GB is 3200GB a month, 1.2 TB over the max.
An addtional 1TB of transfer from the palnet is almost 500 dollars....
That server would be not profitable, unless they are overselling.

Hmm well I never had a dedicated server so I don't know. All i know is that I pay $15 a month, and cPanel reports 4 cpus.. so i guess my 'server' consists of 2 load balanced servers. And I did a tracert on my site, and they don't use the planet, they use ev1servers, which seems to be cheaper for extra bandwidth.
I don't think they oversell since they have a policy against it http://forums.micfo.com/showthread.php?t=139 but then againt, you're the expert here :)

Nope, they have 1 server with 2 Xeon Processors. No load ballencing.
100-130 accounts on a single server? with thoughs stats?... my god

What about paying other bills / staff, and bandwidth overage's are very expensive.
Most of the big companies will sell you 80-120gb for $4.95 but will they let you use it all every month ... i'll leave that to you

I agree with Zak that is a way bit too much for a server to handle it is going to crash imo.

Just a quick poll of a few of their servers
Web server hosts 254 websites
Web server hosts 343 websites
Web server hosts 351 websites

How do you get those stats? Can you do the server I'm hosted on? Oh you mean domain names? Yea we get to host up to 20 domains on one package.
Server load rarely goes over 1.0 for mine.. so I'll stick around for a while longer :)

Its basicly a list of the domain names, but even with a 30-40% error rate thats still overkill on most servers...

Well I've been with them since January, and no problems yet, so I'll keep my fingers crossed.
But now i'm curious.. you don't think it'll last? What host would you recommend for hosting my vB (about 35 concurrent users averages) :)

For now, if you are happy with them, stay with them I imagine most of their user base is still dealing with just html and file transfer more so than dynamic hosting.

There are many great hosts. I won't recommend any because then you might think I'm promoting them when I tell you to stay away from micfo.com because I have complaints about them.
I have endless micfo complaints.
I'm not saying they are the worse because at least they have fantastico which is so great. But they crashed my website.
I have detailed here: http://www.angelfire.com/poetry/love2020/freedomofspeechcomplaintaboutmicfo.html

Thank you.

I got a 2g dual xeon for only $169 (£80) again with 2000GB bandwidth and cpanel will report 4 cpu's has the server will have ht like mine.
Zach what you have to take in mind is that not every user will use what there getting to the max and that its basicy just a selling point for many hosts just like gmail has its selling points on 1gb in box they know most will never use that much.

In order to be a good host you must never assume that anyone will use 1% less than what you give them.
Assumtion leads to problems liek 500 websites on a single server.

Can you imagine hosting 500 websites on a server? I host about 8 on my server and it's a pain all by itself :S =P ~Weed EDIT: Uhh... This text editor isn't responding to the enter key on my keyboard... Hopefully someone submitted a bug report =P GO DOWN Actually the whole editor is stuck and doesn't do anything. o_O

Yes, I've seen it, I've seen 700 websites on a server, alot of shared hosts do this for profit.
