I am going to change my webhost soon, and I was wondering of how exactly I would transfer everything to my new server.
I would have to first backup my website, and then back the forum database.
But when I move to the new server, do I have to copy 'brand new copy' of vBulletin, or can I just use my exact same files that I had on my server? I would have to re-install vbulletin on the new server and not just copy the files all over again? Can someone please help.

Hello,
I have completely no experiece with Telnet and SSH, can't I just backup my database and then install a new vB on my new server and them use my backup file to recover the posts?! It can't be as complicated as what that page said! :S

Well,
1. Yes, but thats what SSH access does for you, allows you to make a COMPLETE backup.
2. There is no reson to install vBulletin on the new host, just restore the database.
While backing up may be possible with a php script, restoring is almost never possible with a database larger than 2-5 mb

Try using Big Dump
works somewhat, i heard it doesn't with some things, but worth a shot ^^

If you can before you move get ssh access at your old host and then work with the new host to transfer your files. Find the right host and it should be no big deal moving the db and files over to the new server.

Okay, I have completely no idea of what Telnet/SSH mean, for no reason, SSH sounds more friendly, so I am going to start from there, does using SSH require me to get some client or something?! I just have no idea of where to start. Can I use this client for it? http://www.download.com/Core-FTP-Lite/3000-2160_4-10256215.html?tag=lst-0-4
