Hey everybody,

I know there are a lot of posts that basicly ask this exact same question over and over, but this one is a *little* different.

Ok, i was all set and ready to go with venturesonline.com after all the good things ive heard about them on this forum, its almost hard to resist, but then someone mentioned version12.net which seems to have much better pricing, although ive never seen/heard any reactions from anyone hosted with them.

Id really appreciate a point in the right direction right now as to which one to choose for best reliability, speed, features, etc. Thanks!

And might i add that vbulletin 2.0.0 beta 4 kicks A$$ !

my sites and vB run smoothly and the service and support are excellent especially being able to icq them as well as their support forum :D

Well, I do know that Ventures Online has received rave reviews here at vB. They're definitely a safe bet for dedicated.

Version 12 doesn't look half bad though. You've got to give them a bit of credit... they're using Penguin hardware. We have a Penguin Relion 120, and I must say.. it's very very nice. :D I'm not sure what Ventures uses for hardware, but it can't be much better than Penguin (unless they're using VA Linux or SGI or something).

I'm not sure how I would feel about having a capped bandwidth limit though (Version 12 does bandwidth limiting). Personally, I like being able to spike. *grin* It's true that a non-capped line can be unpredictable. You may end up paying more than you counted on, but at least people can get to your site.

Also, Ventures Online offers Cpanel, which makes managing your server really really easy. *heartily pats self on back* ;)

Just my $0.02.

I can definetly vouch for Version12. They say that you are "limited" to 256k bandwidth, but they also say that is equal to about 77 gigs of traffic (pretty good :) ). Personally I don't think they'll care too much unless you go over 77gigs.

Paul,

With limited bandwidth, you are allowed to sustain your maximum throughput of 256k for as long as you want. However, if you get a sudden traffic surge and your site needs 512k bandwidth... your pages are going to take forever to load. It's like a traffic jam. If you try to fit more cars through a highway than can fit at once, traffic is going to be slow.

Alternatively, most websites aren't going to sustain their maximum allowed bandwidth throughput 24/7 - unless your site is constantly using more than your capped limit. That would be like a 24/7 traffic jam.

At least that's how I read it.

thanks for the input everybody,

I was planning on getting the 512kb/sec package, i believe that can handle about 8-9 simultanious 56k users downloading at the exact same time from my site (correct me if i am wrong, but 56k X 9 equals about 512k), which i suppose isnt that bad. It would definitly be a lot better if was burstable. Im still thinking about it though.
