i am thinking of switching from ubb as i am fed up with their lack of fixes and bugs. http://www.ubbcentral.com/boards/showflat.php/Cat/0/Number/41484/ is one typical post from a user :(

they have a new product coming soon to replace ubb that will have to have mysql 4.x and will use their own login system called groupee - which will probably not work with third party scripts :(

so my questions....

1 - what is the minumium specification of mysql for vb - if 3.x are there any plans to go to 4.x in the next 12 months?

2 - can we import from threads 6.5.x?

3 - with several disgruntled ubb users, have you thought of offering an offer to current ubb owners, you might have a lot of takers :D

4 - one moan from some ubb people is that vb people charge for their mods, whereas ubb people do not. are most decent mods charged for, and if so why?

5 - most vb forums all look alike, are there any good examples of sites merging vb with other parts of their sites, with different styles etc.

1. The current requirement is 3.23.33. There are no plans to make this a 4.x system only but there are numerous enhancements in MySQL 4.x that will make your forums run smoother and it is the recommended version.

2. There is a UBB.threads importer available.

3. Most of our customers are Infopop converts and our prices are already discounted compared to theirs.

4. There are hundreds of hacks, add-ons, and modules available for vBulletin at vBulletin.org. These are available for free to all licensed customers. I can only think of a few (less than 10) such add-ons, hacks or modifications that require a separate fee and are created by third parties.

5. Many different sites have different levels of integration. You can look on our Links page at www.vbulletin.com/links.php for numerous examples.

Welcome to vBulletin!

I'm really sorry to hear about your experience with UBB. I hope I can be of some assistance.

1) Currently the minimum (actually recommended) server settings is MySQL 4.x (minimum: 3.23.33) and PHP 4.3.10

2) This is the currently the status of the Ubb_classic (6.3 - 6.7) (http://www.vbulletin.com/forum/showpost.php?p=657625&postcount=6) importer. Hopefully it will be of some assistance.

4) There are lots of free mods available to licensed users at http://www.vbulletin.org

5) As for styles, it is a matter of sitting down and adjusting the template designs. I find myself working on a template design, and then discovering something the devs left in the template design system, and that causes me to stop and redesign my design because it was such a useful feature they left for me :)
