Hi everyone,
I am considering purchasing vBulletin for my website. I don't really know anything about mySQL, but I was wondering if the instructions are easy enough for most people to install. I have a working knowledge of the mySQL interface, but don't really know much about it.
Thank you so much for your help!

If you know how to use a mouse and edit a php file, you should be fine :)

Hi there,
Thank you for your interest in the vBulletin forum software.
Yes, vBulletin forum is designed to be both easy and professional for installation and usage.
We provide free support with our software by trained staff members to guide you through the installation steps if you are having trouble with them.
You can find a full online guide regarding installation here: http://www.vBulletin.com/docs/html
Despite this we understand that some people still feel comfortable having a professional install the forum software on your web server, at any time (during or after purchase) you can order the optional service 'fresh installation' for your license for $135.
We're looking forward to your purchase.

Very easy. I knew nothing about websites when I built my first forum. It was very easy to learn. Now I own 2 forums and a bunch of other sites.

Once you have your web server setup properly with php and mysql (using the recommend versions from VB) the installation process is very straight forward providing you follow the instructions.
Once installed though, make sure you read the permissions information completely because it is more complicated to setup your forums than it is to install VB.

I don't understand how to create a MySQL database and a server for the databaseMost of the time, people pay a web host monthly to use someone else's server. Then, from an online control pannel, SSL or a support ticket, you can have a database created.

I wrote a response on how to set up a MySQL database but then I see your username "vbulletin4free?" so I've deleted it. vB costs a VERY reasonable $85 per year or $160 lifetime + $30/yr for updates.

...Because he must be out to pirate vbb with a name like that....

I feel justified in making that assumption. I'm more than happy to help licensed vB users and give advice to those who clearly show interest in buying it. Viewable Source = the best of both worlds.

Thank you so much to everyone for helping me! I just purchased vBulletin last evening, and I can't wait. I think I've got my mySQL set up properly, so I should be able to run install on it soon.
Someone had mentioned setting up permissions, and that brings up a question I had when I was creating the database and user in mySQL. It asked me to set the permissions for several options. I did "select all", but can't figure out whether that is the right choice. I looked through the documentation, but couldn't find the answer.
The elements selected with "select all" are:
select
insert
update
delete
create
drop
index
alter
using mySQL via vDeck.
Can someone tell me if all those parameters should ALL be selected?
Thank you all so much. I look forward to being a part of the vBulletin community. Thanks to your comments, you made me feel comfortable purchasing and being able to handle doing this.
Thanks again,
Dean

Thanks SO MUCH WhiteOx!
I'm assuming you use select all on both the database and user, right?
Thanks again!!

Yes, that is correct.
Database needs those functions to run, and basically when you apply them to a user, it gives them the necessary permissions :)
BTW, better do this before someone starts biting your head off. http://www.vbulletin.com/forum/showthread.php?t=79557
