Until there are Dual Core Pentium-M based desktop processors, I won't be interested.

Advanced Micro Devices is expected to show off a dual-core processor for desktops at its headquarters Wednesday, but is keeping tight lipped about the details.
The chip, code-named Toledo (http://news.com.com/AMD+advances+its+dual-core+plans/2100-1006_3-5233470.html?tag=nl), will feature two separate Athlon 64 processing cores on the same piece of silicon. It will start appearing in PCs in the second half of 2005, said Theresa DeOnis, desktop brand manager for AMD. Putting two cores on a chip will allow a computer to perform two tasks at once, she said, or run specially tweaked applications faster. Windows XP Professional will be the operating system of choice for many dual-core desktops, as it is already threaded to run two processors.
Since this will work on processor port 939, I will probably sell my AMD 64 to someone who is just upgrading, and replace it with a dual core processor. Hopefully Gateway and those computer builders will have unbelievable prices for 64 bit proccessors, so I can buy the dual core one with the money I made with the single.

For now, my P4 3.0 does just fine.

My next system will be dual-something (cores or CPUs). The idea of dual cores has enormous potential for deceptive marketing, so I will be reading lots of performance reviews before buying any dual core chips.

I was actually looking at upgrading sometime in the near future but if this dual-core processor is really supposed to be that good I may just hold off on upgrading the processor until then. As for the motherboard I'm waiting a little bit longer to see what kind of rumors start to circle in regards to when ATI's SLI technology will be released. I know nVidia has it but I'm an ATI guy though I may pick up a GeForce 6600GT for the time being. It beats my Radeon 9600. :)
