MySQL is an awsome database server that is freely avaible. pgSQL is also nice from what I understand, sybase and oracle, and MSSQL are all a differnt ball game at some point because of how they are developed and distributed :)

vBulletin only runs on MySQL

SQL is just, structured query language.

Most databases are based on SQL.
