All,

been experiencing a lot of problems with my server over the last few days and my host recommended I update my kernel to the latest red hat standard. Now I'm a novice with SSH so would like some help from you guys.

My server is DELL DUAL XEON - 2.0Ghz - CPanel - (2)73GBHD - 1GBRAM - 1000 Gigs Transfer

Running WHM 10.0.0 cPanel 10.0.0-R112

Could anyone be kind enough to provide a step-by-step version of how I'd do this in root/SSH including maybe a backup technique if something goes wrong?

Who is your datacenter? They should be able to tell you how to upgrade your kernel safely.

personally i leave kernel upgrades to web host even if i have to pay for them but with some web hosts they do them for free for their customers i.e. dedicatednow.com and theplanet.com

SM and Theplanet should do upgrades for you or with SM walk you though it and fix it if there is a problem :)
