View Full Version : Import of New Data Question

I have an XMB v1.9 board up and running and recently installed a new VB 3.0.5 board (on another URL) and did a full import into VB for testing purposes. Everything came over fine (with a couple of small weird things) and I have ten of my most active members come over as beta testers to beat the system up. Other than a ton of little configuration changes that had to be made, all is now as close to perfect as I could possibly expect and I am a happy man.

Now, the question I have is can I dump out all of the members, threads and posts and import only these tables using Impex? I don't want to disturb any of the VB configuration settings, including individual forum settings which is what I spent so much time changing. What tables should I import/not import to keep from getting clobbered. I am, of course, going to backup before I do anything but I want to get the data load completed as quickly as possible. These guys go nuts when I have to take the forum down for any length of time.....

Any help would be appreciated. :)

Thanks,
Bumper

Yes, the best way to do this is to remove all your users (except your main admin account) as well as the forums and posts. Then redo the import.

Sorry, I just want to absolutely sure that I don't mess something up. What tables should I import/not import to keep from getting clobbered, just the members, threads and posts?

I have now completed the v3.0.6 upgrade, BTW, and upgrades with vB are certainly painless ;)

Don't import any tables. Use the Impex import system.

Well, I am having some weird results, can you be specific about the exact tables to dump (by name). Do you mean ONLY "user", "forum" "thread" and "post"?:o

Thanks,

I didn't say to dump any tables. You can either mass prune users, posts and thread, or reinstall vB and start over.

But if I reinstall I lose all of my settings, right?

Yes. Your options are:

1. Mass prune your users, posts and threads

or

2. Reinstall vB.
