I am looking for an antivirus solution for my new Windows box. I already have Symantec AV Enterprice, which I can use, but I wonder if there are any known issues or things I should watch out in regards to anti-virus and VB.
Same for the firewall, any ports that I should know to leave open?
Thanks in advance,

Leave 80 for http, 21 for ftp, 25 for smtp, 110 for pop open. I run Norton Enterprise and RAS and I never had a problem.

Thanks, do you use use windows IPsec firewalling options? I was playing around with it today and I couldn't surf the web from my test box. What do you use RAS for?

I use Routing and Remote Access to setup firewall rules.

That's a new one for me... how do you do that?

Start > Administation Tools > Routing and Remote Access.
Read the help files they will explain everything you need to know to only allow the traffic you want.

Thanks, though I don't see how that would control web access to your box. I'll have to read the help files.
Question on the AV, since you use Symantec - what exceptions did you put, if any?

None. Read the help files it will explain how to create firewall rules. Also, if you have standard or enterprise versions you can enable Windows firewall.

I'm using windows firewall now, I figured that would do for a while. I'm hesitant to use the 3rd party ones like 8signs....
Thanks for the answer on SAV. I thought you might have to exclude mysql directories like you should exclude exchange databases.
