View Full Version : Server loading problem

OK, maybe what I did is a real bad idea. I have a server that has three vBulletin systems running on it. One of the three has about 200 users on at any given time (except in the wee hours of the morning). The other two may have 20 to 30 users on at a time, max.

So I am watching the "top" display of my server showing a server load of 35.00+. I asked the server people about it and they are just claiming that it is the amount of traffic coming to my site.

Well OK, but heck, I have a dual Xeon 2.4 system with 1 gig of RAM and a SCSI hard drive. I would think this would be sufficient. I mean, I have seen vBulletin sites where there are thousands of simultaneous users logged in. What the heck do they use as their hardware?

Am I overlooking some sort of optimization or something? Something is not right, for certain. I am getting ready to move to a faster server with 2 gig of RAM next week, so I am hoping that will help a bit. But anyone have any suggestions about anything I can check on to see if something is just screwy with my setup?

Thanks.
