Kinda of ironic you mentioned being unique, when the vB copies the UBB's design to a T. I love the vB to death, its so much better, but nonetheless your statements ironic.

Is right, just about every bulletin board software style is pretty much the same now.

I hate it when people say that vBulletin "copied" it's layout from the UBB. Maybe John can tell you how long he was using what is now vB, but still had all the UBB copyright notices on it. It only looks like UBB because it was based on UBB. Correct me if I'm wrong, but vB started out as a UBB that John improved by turning it into php/mysql. And if you look, there are many differences to the layout of the two.

I think one of the things that attracted me so much was that it DID look like the UBB. It was designed to...

I have to back JimF on this one, its just the evolution of the board. I'm not sure how much chance John gave UBB to make an offer to him, or get involved somehow, but, I think from the sounds of things, John didnt set out to copy UBB, his hacks, just evolved to vBulletin. But I may be wrong :)

Either way, the close UBB style also attracted me to my vBulletin Board.

Never said it was a bad thing. It's also what attracted me to the vB, that and the MySQL backend. And the only thing Infopop can do know is sue on the grounds of Intellectualy Propery Rights, but since they are creating Open Topic, doubt that'll happen anytime soon.
