Hi,
do i have to rebuild search index and thread info when I rename some forums, or move a forum into another category ?

I imported an UBB, so I've initially rebuilt everything, now I will work on my forum, rename some, move into new categories, and I'm a little confused as what/when to rebuild ?

Thanks,
Benj

Unlike the UBB which uses static html which needs to be 'rebuilt' every time you make changes, everything in vBulletin is done dynamically meaning you never have to 'rebuild' any pages.

I assume this is what you mean?

Well not exactly... I think there are some cases when the search index needs to buy rebuilt, and I would like to know if this apply to my case.

Thanks,
Benj

To my knowledge, vB only stores the forum number (not name) in the database where the thread index is, so no - you wouldn't need to rebuild it in this case.

And I think Mark is basically right - you basicaly won't ever have to rebuild it. I think that was just an option for troubleshooting.

I think that option is there in case someone has done some major pruning on the forums, then you may want to rebuild the search index, but most people will likely never need that feature. :)

Just to clarify - this option is really redundant, and is only required if you prune a lot of posts, without removing the threads. This is not normally possible without editing the database directly.

The option remains from when the indicies did not update automatically. Basically - you will never need to update the search index.
