I have released a new layout for the forums that includes tighter integration to the rest of the SitePoint Network...

Let me know what you think.

Looks very good WLuke! Only the textfields and buttons are ugly imho (especially the thick black border around it)

Very clean and pleasant on the eye :)

With the buttons I didn't meant your ownmade buttons btw (those are great!) but the standard form-buttons you modified through css...

You know I like it! ;)

You know I like it too, but I do have to agree with Mas*Mind and the button borders. IMO, it doesn't look bad on the submission buttons on the new post pages, but it looks kinda awkward next to the forumjump. Maybe only have a 1 pixel border? Another place I don't particularly like the border is around the message <textarea> box.

Other than that, me gusta mucho!

I'd ditch the css-property's

I tried it also a while, but it became ugly-er every time I saw it..in the end I reverted back to the default look

It doesn't fit the rest of your slick design imho

I like it, Wayne. :) On a side note, I like the "includes subforums" thing you have going. I "borrowed" :D that and went a little further with it here (http://board.tubescan.com/) - I added the sub-forum names a link to them.

Also, did you change the spacing in the thread listings somehow? The listings seem more condensed somehow. I like that, too. ;) I also like how you changed the online/offline indicator to text in the author column.

I have to disagree with the guys about the CSS. On my screen (1600x1200 on a 21 inch monitor) the border doesn't look too large. The one thing I don't like is the background color of the text input boxes. It doesn't seem to match anything else (not to mention I personally don't like that shade). I like the color of the "browse" button for attaching files.

Overall great new look! ;)

Good overall design, but as has been said before: 2 or 3 pixel thick borders is always design you should stay clear of, unless your style is adapted to it... very few sites on the net are.
Good work as far as the rest goes :)

Well, two things

1. Take a look at the attached image - is it supposed to look like that?

2. It seemed to take forever to load the header.

[I added the red line to show what i was talking 'bout]

What browser are you using Nicholas? Doesn't look like that in any of the ones I tested in... (IE 5.0, IE 5.5, Netscape 4.7, Opera 5.02, K-meleon .06)

Also I didn't add any borders they are there by default. Anything less and there are no borders what so ever and you lose the form elements completely.

Great look. After using it I really like the layout a whole lot better than it is here. The Message Icons are in an annoying location and should be secondary to text entry.

The colors are pretty neat and I like the way you implemented a screen of smileys that could be rotated. A couple of other really nice, neat hacks too. I wasn't so crazy about the orange color and some of the buttons were a little off the theme but overall it was great and one of the best, most functional forums I've seen.
