Hiya fellas...
I'm about to purchase vBulletin for my SOFII clan forum.
At present we use YaBB ( which is a free forum) but I can see that Vb has much more to offer us,
My questions are this...
Is it as easy as YaBB to install?
Is it secure?
Are you patient with green admins?
Are mods easy to install?
TIA fellas

I have to say that I bought my license on Christmas Eve - had no clue what the heck I was doing - paid vBulletin to install it on my server and they had me up and running in about 4 hours. Amazing!!! One small glitch, but it was my fault and they were very patient with me. We got it straightend out and I am thilled not only with the program, but with the customer service and the support here. I think you'll be very happy as well. I can't address any of your other questions, but I will wish you a lovely Holiday.

Morning Mr. N.
vBulletin is probably easier to install over YaBB, however since I have no previous experience in installing YaBB, my opinion is based on pure opinion. However, it should be very easy where you just configure one script to point out the details for your MySQL database, and from there, you basically run through the script by clicking a through a bunch of screens.
As in terms of security, I personally feel vBulletin is one of the most secure platforms out there. Over the course of the vB2.x series, Jelsoft has learned from what exploits/flaws/etc. hackers used to attack vBulletin boards, and have developed, and implement measures to deter and counter hackers from breaking into the vB3 system, such as the strikes system, multiple encryptions for passwords, and so forth.
As for patience with admins, I feel they are one of the most patient group of people around out there. Don't expect that from members, but you should get a whole lot of patience from the staff here.
As for Mods, it depends on the Hack itself. Some are more easier to install than others.
Hope that helps.
