Hello!

I would like to start my own Discussion board but I am unsure about a few things.
1) Do I need to find a host for my board? Or can I just start using it straight away?
2) When I set it up can I get myself a domain name that can be used as an e-mail address for my Forum?
3) Do I need an fpt account?

Thanks!

1. vBulletin requires a web server that includes PHP (minimum version 4.1.0) and MySQL (minimum 3.23.33) installed. As long as you choose a host that meets these requirements you will be able to install and run our software. We do not make official recommendations regarding hosting companies. I suggest you view the vBulletin Hosting Options forum for advice from our customers:

http://www.vbulletin.com/forum/forumdisplay.php?s=&forumid=11

2. You can either purchase a domain name directly from one of the many domain name processors, or get one through your web host.

3. An FTP account would be very helpful so you can upload the vB files to your server.

Itd be cool if you could pay for a hosted vBulletin here like IPB used to do with forumflash :P

Then people who dont want to go bother looking for a host and the needs of ftp and sql wouldnt need to worry :/

I'd like to second this. Servers are fairly cheap and you can slap quite a few accounts on one server. It is definetly profital and it'll help the newbies out quite a bit!

and once the person feels good with vBulletin and running it, they could move to their fown server.

Just a thought :)
