a little info about your server, OS, webserver, mySQL and PHP versions would be very helpful.
from the info I see it looks like you have a problem with your username/password to the database or your database location in your config.php file.
are you on your own server or is a hosted site?

is mySQL located on your server (localhost) or is it located on a dedicated mySQL server set up by your host?
when you say you have a virtual server, do you mean that you share the server with others? do you have root access (the ability to install and configure server apps like mySQL, PHP, etc) or do you have to get the hosting comapny to set them up for you?
