View Full Version : How to import posts only?

I've created a forum section called Archives/Old Posts. What I want to do is import all the posts from my phpBB2 forum and dump them all in an Archives section that I made in vB3. I don't care about keeping the old database sections or importing the old user accounts; I just want every single post from my old database to be in a single Archive forum. Is this possible? If so, how would I go about doing it?
I've installed impEx...
Thank you!

I think you would need to run the forums, threads and posts moduals, then you could mass move all the posts / threads into an archive area.

Alright, if my current forum sections are labeled the same as my previous phpBB ones will that cause problems? Should I rename my vB3 forum names to avoid complications before importing the old database?

They will be imported if they have diffrent names, just with diffrent id's, though renaming before you do it would make it eaiser to see which one to move.

Thank you. I've restored my old database but have noticed one small glitch?! In some of the replies, not all, the subject line is for a different thread and not the current thread. Is this normal?

No this isn't normal, it has been reported on another phpBB import though as yet I have been unable to reproduce it in test.
Is that before or after updating the counters ?

Only after updating the counters. Since the posts do not show until you update the counter.

Is it the post titles are all shifted up one in the thread, or threads have titles of completely diffrent threads ?

Threads have titles of completely different threads. But, it's only replies... I guess I can manually go through each post and change the reply titles.

Are the boards public, can you post a link to your phpBB board and the vBulletin board ?

They are both disabled at the moment, but let me flip them on and I'll PM you the links.

After looking at the ids again it does look like it's just off by 1. Any easy way to fix this?
Edit: Errr, maybe not!

I belive I've found the bug ! ......... my bad, silly typo.
Download impex again and over write the files and re-run it, should be ok now.

So redownload impex and re-import the threads? and update the thread counter? Is this correct?

Yes, download again.
Over write the exsisting scripts with the new files.
re-run the threads & posts modules, then update counters.
