Urgent trying to grab topics!

I want to write a simple php script that would pick up the first four topics and display it in the front page. I am not looking for a fool software suite, I'm just looking for a simple script that would open the front page and grab the first 4 topics and display them in my homepage.

Is this possible the idea is to open the html source of the forum and grab the first four topics. Is this possible?
