just got my forum up and running but need traffic any ideas its www.phone-forum.co.uk (http://www.phone-forum.co.uk) cheers Danny

Three things popped to my mind the instance I visited your board:
1. Remove that dreadful message on the top of the forum. No one will advertise with a forum that just started, so you are just wasting space. And even if they were interested, all caps and two exclamation marks doesn't help much.
2. Reduce the size of your front page. You have way too many forums there. I know you want to look like a big forum, but you just started, so you're not big. Bring it down to a small amount and expand when the need arises.
3. Get a custom style. If you can't make one, buy one. While the standard style looks very good, it is what it is: a standard style. It doesn't look too appealing for new users to see the standard vB style everywhere. You have to set yourself apart from other forums and a custom style is the first and a very important step.

Always ask yourself: Would I join this forum if I just visited it for the first time? Try to set all the feelings towards it aside, for an example all the work you put into it, and try to judge it from a neutral position. If you think you wouldn't join, think of reasons why this may be and try to improve them.

Agreed with all of the above. And definitely put an image or logo instead of that horrid advertising info for the header.

Why would anyone want to advertise on a forum with 1 post? Built up the traffic and community first.

I would also reccomend you yourself to buy some adveritising at some big sites that are targetted towards the same audience as you. You could also try affiliating with them or maybe just a link exchange.

Another important thing is to make a main site that is search engine friendly, then submit your URL to all of the search engines available. You don't need a main site to do this, but it helps :)

Too many forums, :/ start out with more broad topics, like cell phones and tv's instead of each make and modle,
