Good afternoon,

We are currently developing some software that works with vBulletin. We wish to offer support for vBulletin v3 and also the most recent version of v2. Is it still possible to download v2, and if so, what would the licencing requirements be?

What we would like to do, is run v2 and v3 at the same time on a private internal Intranet server. They would not be live sites, but loaded with test data (posts, users, etc) which we would use to test our product.

Does this mean we would need 2 licences, 1 for each copy, or would 1 licence cover both copies?

Many thanks,

Alan Wagstaff.

When you acquire a license, you can download both the latest versions of vB2 and vB3. You legitimately only need one license for either version.

Yeah, but I think that you can only run one or the other.

BAD EXAMPLE:
Running vB 2.5.3 at kyletech.us/vb2/ AND
Running vB 3.0.3 at kyletech.us/vb3/ WITH ONLY ONE LICENSE

Good example:
Running 2.5.3 to begin with and then when you are done with that, upgrade to 3.0.3 . With only 1 license, this is legal

Honestly, as for the 2 licenses, I'm not sure.

Those would probably count as test boards anyways.

Ok, thanks for the err.. clarification(?) guys :-)

I'm waiting on an e-mail from one of the vBulletin chaps about a different matter, so I'll ask him at the same time.

Many thanks,
Alan.

I know, but still, Jelsoft might have a hissy fit about this if it is available to a mass amount of people. I would think that however, setting up a copy on your computer doesn't pose a problem, as long as no-one but you can see them. I have a copy of 3.0.3 and 2.3.5 on my own compy with Apache, PHP, and MySQL.

A company I know got in a lot of trouble for installing vBulletin on their Intranet.

As far as I'm aware, and based on the license information, you are allowed one public set of boards and one set of test boards behind htaccess. As for intranets, as long as it isn't accessible to the public, I think you can run an additional set.

Unfortunatly, I still haven't got a definate answer on this, but since time is running thin, I'll just get 2 licences to be on the safe side.

Thanks for your help all.

Alan.

Yes can do what you are asking, as long as new user signup is disabled and is not public.

I would be inclined to say you need two licenses, as you and your staff will be working on both boards for your product.

However the final say should come from Steve, if you need a quicker anwser you are best contacting sales@vbulletin.com
