I am considering converting over from phpbb but I am concerned with the convert process. I understand that to accomplish the conversion, the database name given to VB needs access to the phpbb database. There may lie some trouble as my hiost servers will not allow the same username on a second database name although the database may be named differently..

Now to the meat of The question:

Can it be done or am I stuck in phpbb land ?

Are you stuck in phpBB Land?Answer: No

Info on the phpBB Importer: phpBB (2.0.8 - 2.0.10) (http://www.vbulletin.com/forum/showpost.php?p=657606&postcount=2)

As for the database setup, i don't think it matters what username you use as long as it has permissions to write, read, etc.

You can install vBulletin into a phpBB database. None of the tables should clash since all phpBB tables are prefixed with phpbb_ and you can also prefix your vbulletin tables to begin with vb_.

http://www.vbulletin.com/forum/showthread.php?t=102412 current importers link this page also has a link to the online manual.

if you can FTP files and click in buttons and you have a username and password you can install vB.

if not let your hired hand do it for you or pay vB to do it for you.
