View Full Version : How about a welcome e-mail to new members?

Back when I was running 1x, I had a custom welcome e-mail that would automatically be sent to new members who register. It would provide new users with their user name, password, and links to the FAQ, etc. - basically, it introduces them to things and welcomes them, making them feel right at home.
Now, with my upgrade to 2.0, I lost that hack and haven't gotten around to adding it back. Could you make this a standard feature in 2x?

Mark-
You could actually do that. All you need to do is turn on the Verify Email feature in your control panel. Then edit your email_activateaccount template detailing all the pertinent information that you want.

Hi Steven,
I am aware of this feature, but I purposely don't want to have to verify every new member's registration. I was suggesting vBulletin make a new member welcome message standard for all new members, without having verify anything.

So it kills two birds with one stone -- makes sure they are legit, and gives them a welcome message.

The thing I don't like about having to manually verify new members is:
1. New members may get frustrated that they can't post immediately after registering, thus, they leave and never come back.
2. Time and effort it takes to verify new members can be a hassle, especially if you get many.
However, I do see your points, you'll just have to prove it to me more. :)

1) New members will be able to post immediately, as all you have to do it edit the forum permissions of the awaiting email confirmation group.
2) There really is no time and effort to verify new members, except for editing the one template. I think you are confusing the validating e-mail addresses/moderating new members. All the validating e-mail feature does is send an e-mail to the new member who signed up detailing their forum information. Please understand that this is not like moderating new members, where they are put in a que waiting to be validated. So there is nothing to do on the Admin end of things.
Convinced?
