View Full Version : problems with installing 2.0 and now reverting back to backup

I tried upgrading to 2.0 - but I received an error and then got the message that I had to revert back to 1.1.5.

I tried reloading 1.1.5 and reinstalling, and got more errors, until I chose the option to completely clear the database.

Anyway, all I want to do now is just go back to what I had - I did make the backup when prompted before trying to upgrade to 2.0 - but I don't know how to use it. I saw in some other posts about the command to restore the database, but I don't have shell access to my server right now, and it would take a day or so to set it up.

I'm obviously very inexperienced at all of this and would appreciate any help. I had previously installed some hacks into my 1.1.5 vbulletin (polls, avatars, PMs) - i don't know if that now has any bearing on trying to reinstall.

it shouldn't have any effect on trying to reinstall.

I'm afraid that to restore the database, though, you really do need shell access. I don't know if anyone has ever had any luck trying to do it thru phpMyAdmin or not.

as for the hacks, they would work much better if you copied the original program files you had from your hacked version of 1.1.5

can you tell us the error you had when you tried upgrading?

I'm not sure about the error I received - I have numerous email error messages all around the same time - below is the first one I got:

My host restored my database from my backup - I'm too nervous now to try to upgrade again since I don't really know what went wrong the first time...

Database error in vBulletin: Invalid SQL: SELECT user.*,userfield.* FROM
user LEFT JOIN userfield ON userfield.userid=user.userid WHERE user.userid='8'
mysql error: Table 'boardofezra_com.userfield' doesn't exist
mysql error number: 1146
