View Full Version : Before actually buying a VB Owned License....

I just wanted to know if you have updates constantly for the VB software? I have been using (or with) *cough*phpBB*/cough* for a long time now and I'm really starting to get pissed off about having to run updates for my boards because they can't get the crap right the first time.
I'm tired of uploading all the forum files for a new release and getting it situated to only have to delete it all again or whatever to upload another "newest" release or version 15 minutes later! I don't have time lately to keep my board updated every day let alone anything else. So, if VB is more reliable then phpBB, I think I'd rather get a Owned License for VB and scrapping phpBB all together hahaha.
O and 2 more quick questions. I was wondering if it was quicker to do the money transfer rather then the check method? I was thinking it would be, but the way it looked...the check method of payment was quicker. The second question is, do you take money orders? I don't really like doing checks, I personally think money orders are more reliable because it's already "pre-paid" for and you are for sure getting your money that way. Anyway...thanks in advanced for your time and patience.

There is no regular update schedule. Although it can happen that two updates come out shortly after each other, this hardly ever happens.

Awesome! Thanks for your reply. :) I had forgotten to add the most important question of all in the above post. I have two domain names taking people to the same site. I have had the first one for years and the second was the newest one. They both have the same Namesevers and such, but the oldest one is being used as the secondary domain so to speak....it's "parked". Would there be a conflict with licenses then? Here below are the domains.
http://www.twisted-society.com (http://www.twisted-society.com/)
http://www.vindictivebastard.com (http://www.vindictivebastard.com/)
Of course I wouldn't place a Owned vB on another domain because those are the only two I have and they are taking you to the same place. Everything I upload such as forum software and such would take you to the same place with both domain names. Like here below:
http://www.twisted-society.com/plog/index.php is the same with:
http://www.vindictivebastard.com/plog/index.php which would be the same with a forum software location.
I hope I wouldn't have to get another license then. It wouldn't make any sense really would it lol? Thanks again for your time.

As long as they both show the same style and content, that's not a problem.
You might want to redirect twisted-society.com to vindictivebastard.com though, because users will have to login on both domains seperately.

They do accept money orders. I just mailed my M.O. a week ago.:D

Mmm...Well, I could just make a direct link to the location of the board using just one domain name. I could use the vindictivebastard.com/forumlocation link and have people bookmark it that way. And if they choose to do whatever they want and have problems....it's their problem lol! I don't know...I'll figure it out when and after I get vB or whatever. Thanks for your reply.

about updates, Jelsoft is a leader in stable releases (my own opinion), and when they release a tool, they don't plan to release an update for months, because they do have a fix roadmap and do whatever possible to not have to update...
btw, when you have a minor upgrade, like a security patch, it's about one file or two, and have a updater file to do the job... no need to update everything... and usually, it's done so quickly it's like loading a page after a click...
remember, phpBB is a community shared forum, not driven by any company... most forum softwares right now are community driven, so you have to deal with a lot of releases and bug fixes...

Don't throw it away just yet, you can import from phpBB to vBulletin using our ImpEx system which is free for download from our members area.

Sorry I haven't replied sooner. I have been working my tail off the past 4 days or so and didn't have much internet time. :( I'm so glad to hear that Nexialys, I really don't want to do updates all the time. I don't have the time for it. My reply to the last part of your reply is: Maybe I should have gone with vB from the start... :o would have saved me a load of time.

Sorry to say, but..it's too late lol. I had already deleted the board before posting this here. Well...I have deleted it a few weeks prior to posting this actually. When I did have the phpBB plus 1.3 board up, it was nothing but errors and stuff. So, I scrapped it. I was also in the process of making a third phpBB template....and gave up on it because I just don't have time for it anymore. I guess I just want something reliable and such...I'm getting tired of wasting 88% of my life and time on phpBB. :p
Also, I have just mailed out my $160.00 yesterday. I had spent the $5.00 dollar postaged so it should be there in 5 days ....rather then the 10 days wait by regular fee. I would have done the 3 day one, but, I didnt have the $20.00 on me to do it lol.
A question is...is there a way for me to download a "copy" for testing before I actually get it? I know that has been asked probably a million times, but..I figured I'd ask again hehe. Another thing is...I had recieved a copy of version 3.0.3 from a "friend" person...and was wondering if I could upload that once and try it to? It's a "ripped" or "hacked" copy I guess. I didn't upload it and use myself because I wanted to do it right and be honest with the vB peoples. ;) :) Anyways, I figured I'd ask before doing anything like that. Of course if it's not allowed, I won't do it...but, if so to try...I would like that much. And, I would take it down and use the one I got from vB when I recieve the email from them. One more question quick. If I bought a license for myself...would a friend be able to have the copy of my vB with or without the registration code or whatever to make it legal for them? Just was curious... I wouldn't want to do something illegal with vB. ;) Thanks in advance for the help and comments. :)

Your license is for one copy of vb, on one server. You don't own the software, you just own a license to use it.
You could sell your license to your friend if you like, but then you would have to stop using it.

You said that, so I assumed that you did think it was yours to do with as you pleased. That's the part my reply was about...

Your friends aren't allowed to use your copy. They can use your instance, but you have to transfer the license to them first.
Your vB can only be one instance, distributing it will make the license illegal.

Ok, thank you for your reply. :) I was just wondering about that, I won't do anything that I am not suppose to. I'll just tell my friend to buy one of the various licenses then. ;)
I was just wondering to, how long does it take for the money order to get to the United Kingdom from the USA? The lady at the local post office said: by normal mail it would take up to 10 days or so. But, I had paid the $5.00 mail method which she said it would take 5 days to get there then. Will it or does it really take that long to get there? And, when they get the payment, will I get an email, with the user and pass to enter the member's area right away or will it take a little while longer? Just was curious, thanks in advance.

I have no idea how long it will take for the mail to arrive. However once it does and the money order clears, you will receive an email with your customer number and password for the Members Area.

The post I had here was deleted because I had not looked deep enough lol. I had found the answer to my question after I clicked the "Submit Url" in the member's area. :p :) I'm downloading it now and I can't wait to get it up and running and situated. Thanks a bunch to those that helped me and answered questions. :) If I have anymore, I'll be sure to make a new post. :)
