Ignore user option

Any thoughts on this one ? The ability to 'ignore' a user and their posts would be a godsend!

banning, or stripping someone from post permissions would do the same... only a little more effective

or do you mean that a user can check if he doesn't want to see posts from a certain other user?

No - from a users point of view. If I were using Usenet, I can ignore other posters by dropping them in my killfile...

OUr users are begging us for this feature...then you can just IGNORE the trolls and focus on the real conversation!

I dont want to down play this but if you have a problem user perhaps its time to ask him to move on..

Brian, the point is, admins may have no problem with a user, but certain users might. If you've ever had the problem of posters going elsewhere because they seem unable to accept people will not always agree with them, you'll know what I mean. I'd rather keep them on-board, and have them using an ignore facility, than going to a competitors board...

Personally, I think it would be a great idea, if it didn't put too much strain on a server...

The one they have over there even keeps them from being able to send you private messages.

And craig, one of the things I find interesting is that while most people tend to hate trolls, activity goes way up on my board when they are there. I have seen increases in page views of as much as 20% when there is an active troll on board.

I'll have to have a think about how best to do this. Thinking about it, it would probably add a lot of workload to the displaying of forums in particular. I can't guarantee that it will make it in at any point in the near future.

it would definitely add a lot of strain to the server having to look for posts by different people for 100 users at a time.

I can post the other hack here and if someone wants to figger it out and modify it for this board, at least it would be there as a hack for those who really want it...
