help importing phpbb to vb

ok i uled impex to my vb folder and when i click inport/export i get this:

Like I said befor im really bad with this :confused:
im tring to keep my phpbb up till everthing is transfered and running.

In looks like you don't have an Impex config file. Please view the online instructions here:

ok i got it to work i forgot to config the file but anyway here is my next problem 1 is i folowed the steps but it wont transfre over my user inf it dose everyone but mine comes up imported_djjeffa (http://www.djjeffa.com/vb/member.php?u=3) and i cant figer out how to fix that also i had one other admin on the sit with me and now he is gone his didnt transfer at all.
also Import Ban List didniot work it said it inprted 3 but i have alot mor than that.
also Import Forums and Categories,Import Threads,Import Posts & Import Polls didndt work and rank and smilies worked a lil but i guess i have to mess with them.
any advice guys?

EDIT: i could see the threads in thadmin cp but i cant figer out haw to make them show

ok im getting some were you could veiw the site at www.djjeffa.com/vb (http://www.djjeffa.com/vb) but now all the user names are messed up all the names seem to be off by one like everypost i did it said posted by teresa and she was the second member. it seems like there all of by one also i still have my inport_djjeffa that im tring to make just djjeffa but thats the name i set the vb up with and it wont let me mess with it.
also my pms didnt transfer over either.

Did you update the user, thread and forum counters?

Then something else went wrong with the import. If updating the counters didn't fix this then I suggest you start over with a fresh database and reimport the phpBB data.

How would you go about clearing the db? I am also on Jeff's site.


Also could it be that we registered on the VB site last night, as well as being registered on the old php site? would that affect importing?

The easiest way is to restore a backup of the vB database prior to attempting this upgrade. The second easiest way is to reinstall vB.

Registration on both forums would not have caused these problems.

Lets say we had 2 users with the same name or close. We have "djjeffa" and also "imported_djjeffa". "djjeffa" has id #1 and was created on the new vb. "imported_djjeffa" has id #3 and is the original screen name from the php board. We are running into a problem that all of "djjeffa"'s post are showing up as posts by "teresa" who is user id #2.
Any idea why we are having all of "djjeffa"'s posts show up as posted by "teresa"??
I hope you can understand what I am trying to say, so you can explain it to me. hahah:D

Also would a merge user take care of this problem? Maybe make the "imported_djjeffa" a merge into the original "djjeffa"

Are you importing this phpbb into an existing vb database with users in it already or a fresh install?
If it's a fresh install of vb, wipe it and start over with the converter might be best.
I did not user the feature for associating users from old and new forums but it sounds like thats what you did here and it went wrong.

You might want to clean up your usergroups and forums before running it again. If you have a bunch of customized groups and forums I'm guessing this could be a problem.

We do have alot of different usergroups that we used as user titles on php. Could this be a problem? I am just afraid to merge the 2 djjeffa users into one, since it says that it is unreversible.

Yes but is the vb a fresh install or have you been using it was what i was wondering.

You might want to clean up the usergroups on the phpbb first then. Move those admins all to a default admin group, and so on with other member groups.
I wouldn't bother merging anyone right now, you want to get it going first. Once complete you can edit and tweak vb to your hearts content.

Our forums had default phpbb usergroups, and no customized or hacked forums structure of any type, the convert went fine.
I'm sure the converter is not going to find extended customizations you've added, it's looking for default values. So move the users to default groups, clean up the forums.

Keep in mind, with a backup there's no reason to be afraid of trying anything. In fact trying it several ways is better as you'll prolly learn a thing or two about what you can and cant do.

ok I reinsalled vb and the same thing is hapinning my user name is inmported_djjeffa is that cause i set up the site with djjeffa as the admins user name? do I have to make up a diffrent one?

Sounds like you are using phpbb as a module maybe? postpuke adds annonomous user. Mine phpbb forums were. And the annonomous user had no effect on anything, and i deleted him right after converting.


NONE of the users the converter moved over, were tagged imported_whoever. I'm not sure why yours is saying that.

Without a closer look this ones going to be tough I bet. Which means yur own your own to see a pattern somehow and solve it.

You know I was thinking, when I did the fresh install of my new vb, I did create a new user. I didn't want to have any problems with it when it saw my normal username on the forums I was importing. I never thought to mention that.
