Hi,
Please read this thread on my bb: http://www.atlasf1.com/bb/showthread.php?threadid=5699
Basically, some users complain that sometimes threads stop downloading halfway, so they only see some of the older messages but not the new. Read their description for more details.
Any idea? Could it be something to do with the timeout on MySQL or PHP setup?
Thanks,
bira

Just out of curiosity, how long are threads in question? How many posts do you allow before the spliting the page?

Any chance of some example URLs?

werehere, I have it set to 40 a page.
john, I asked Pascal - one of the folks on that thread who's complaining - to give me a specific thread when it happens to him. I'll let you know.
However, I think werehere's idea (behind the question) could be a good one - I'll simply lower down the number to 25 or so.
You want me to hold off on doing that until we get an example?

If you don't mind waiting, an example (preferably one that does it every time) would be useful so that I can check that it is not a problem with my coding.

Hi John,
I haven't changed anything and I don't mind giving it a few days to see what causes it (although I am pretty certain it's just a matter of a timeout on very large threads).
You might want to take a look at the last couple of posts on http://www.atlasf1.com/bb/showthread.php?threadid=5699 -- specifically that of Pascal.
Interestingly, both he and Tanja - as well as someone else who's complained about it in our chat room - all refer me to threads in the Paddock Club, which is a private forum (access possible to paddock club members only). However, I personally don't have the slightest of problems with those threads, or any others for that matter. The "HOLLAND-----HOLLAND----HOLLAND!!!!!!!!!" thread is indeed full of images and quite heavy, but it took me less than half a minute to have it all fully loaded and I had absolutely no problem.
Any idea?
Thanks,
Bira

ya know....
I have an idea of what is causing this, and why it's not happening to me.
Could it be because HTML is enabled in that forum, and due to HTML mistakes caused by some posts, Netscape does not render the page all the way?
Just a thought. In any case, I'm turning off html :)

Yes that could be the case for sure. On our forums we have that problem from time to time when someone forgets to close a tag, it will not load anything below that post no matter what, or it is intentional.
That may be a good test to try.:)

Well, we found the cause and the cure... a bit unbelievable.
It happens only to Netscape users, and it happens on threads with a lot of the lol.gif smilie we have (laughing out loud). It's the oddest bug I've ever seen!
Replacing the smilie (which is actually one of the most popular, because it's so cute) with a static one (i.e. not an animated one) solved the problem.
Very odd.... well, yet another proof that Netscape sucks! :)

I have actually seen post to this effect over at scriptkeeper, they (the UBB owner) were having problems with animated gifs in Netscape. Weird...
