Help : how do I convert from PSD to GIF with The GIMP ?

Hello,

I am trying to translate the buttons, but I have a big issue : every time I convert to GIF, the result is messy:
- the image is lighter than the English version
- the borders are somewhat too sharp

Here is an example below:
- "Edit" is the original English button
- "Modif." are the French buttons tries made straight from the PSD

I have The GIMP 2.0.2 and GTK+ 2.4.3.

Also, I would like advices about the order to do things, like: should I change the size of the image before converting to indexed colors, or after ?

Ok, it looks like GIMP doesn't handle shadings with PSD files.

The problem was solve by Romano, using an expensive software (Photoshop).

If anybody knows a free graphic utility which handles PSD files better than GIMP, that would be really usefull for me. :)
