I'm looking for some great ideas and colors for our
new forums . . . and I need to see yours!
(No, I won't be stealing your hard work, only trying to
get an idea of colors schemes, what works and what doesn't.)
Thanks for your help,
David

I think I have a pretty interesting scheme here - and if anything, UBBCHH swiped their scheme off me (for that period)! :D

I like the Black . . . although I may try a blue and
white tone for text.
Note: It really doesn't make any difference what colors
folks have chosen for their boards . . . just so long as
the colors work together!
I've seen greens, blacks, reds, yellow . . . all the
primary colors work well. But when colors are chosen
to work AGAINST themselves . . . then you end up with
mud and poor eyesight.
So if anyone has a talent in colorizing their board,
you should be proud of your artistic skills. I'd
love to see it!
Still, what I've seen looks sharp!
Thanks.

But thanks! Well i think my web host is in colorado but I'm physically in New York. I'm going for a new look very soon but I'm glad you like the old one! :)
I will probably have a more serious professional web site when I take web design/programming and art commissions. That's for later on though.
A good hint Dave is to use a wysiwyg html editor when matching up color. Composer is not too bad (imho better than frontpage). I personally use and favor Adobe Pagemill though. That along with Photoshop is an unbeatable web combo with the only drawback being the price tag...

I like the logout icon next to the five links icons. I just think that they all should not be on the same line. Seperate the icons like we have on this board. Top is profile, register, members. Bottom row is faq, search, home. It just is more appealing in my eyes, but I like the colors.

You guys are too great.
I've been away from this board for a while,
busy getting our new host and forum tuned,
and I come back here to see a LOT of great
artistic talent.
Yesterday I got an email from a friend that
said one of the forums he's been on kept adding
banners, links, and a lot of other items to nearly
every page in the forum . . . to the point where
it looks like Time-Warner, with all the busy lights.
In his mind the ol' forum has too much of a
commercial look to it now. He said, "What's wrong
with having white real estate on each page? Do
they have to fill up EVERY blank spot with some
kinda icon or link?"
Any thoughts?
And as always . . . PLEASE post your new forum
links here so that I can visit them for color
and design ideas.
Thanks,

So... is there a tutorial for creating a front page?
nah... why would i do that :) ... not sure what you mean by tutorial for a frontpage... cause from what i've seen on your site you have that covered... your forum design is very cool... and must of taken ages to to do the template editing
for an easy way of cheating for your frontpage is to create a blank index.shtml file and use a SSI call to your /vb/index.php directory so going to the domain will bring up the forums...
ukliam
Thu 31st Aug '00, 7:06am
I can do all the html, but it is the pulling of the data from the php files:
craete an index.shtml file and use a SSI call to your /vb/index.php
That is what I would have trouble with :)
I am new to all this, what is an SSI call, and how do u use it to get the data displayed on the main page?
I think perhaps this is a little off topic, so if you could email me a little more info.... that would help a lot.

Yeah, you should start another thread. :D Look for a table that is not closed, first; that is the most common error that IE ignores yet causes "nothing" to come up in NS. Just look at the source in NS, then track it down in your templates.

I like the clean borders on each side of your forum.
Is it possible to add small advertising buttons
in the borders to the right, so they appear on

If so, that would be a great method to help
generate some cas to support our forum.

I might as well add my site....this is a gaming site dedicated to a Unreal Tournament Server named Ad's NIUT Server (http://www.islandncs.com/ad/) and we are starting to include Tribes and possibly Diablo. Bear in mind the site is far from complete, once vb2.0 and phpnuke4.4 comes out then I will complete it. I have also implemented wajones' nuke2vb and added my own links and download sections which will be incorporated into the next nuke2vb release. The links and downloads section have unlimited category depth as well as a rating system similar to dblinks from Gossamer Threads. While your there please sign our guestbook. Thx.

Glad you like them. Was a real pain to get them all up and running. The basic ones are contained in some thread here in the graphics area. I edited the color by just replacing the original blue. Then I resized them all so that they were exactly the same length -- you may not want to do this but I like button size consistency. Then I added some extra transparency area to act as a spacer. I changed the "Profile" or "User CP" icon to "My Stuff" since it seems to make more sense and most of my users won't know what the hell a "CP" is.
That's it!

Finally.... I hope I can show some face here with my handiwork. I've added in the amazing vbPortal hack for the front page, customized it, and added in a few little things as well.

(BTW, can anyone explain why the news headlines don't appear in font size='1' even though the source says it should?).

Slink. Looks real nice but the white scroll bars blend into the page and you cannot see them. Might consider some of the nice blues you are using. Will improve the look no doubt.
Good work.

Is this thread for the "best" forums? I was thinking of starting a thread for the crappiest designs, or "Is my forum really that bad?" :p

We just changed it from UBB to vB, I'm just a mod. there, but decided to put it up anyway.
I believe that we are using the default colors though because we do not know what else to do.
