I'm going out to buy a DVD burner tomorrow and I was thinking of this Plextor: http://www.plextor.com/english/products/708A.html?storeId=10001&langId=-1&catalogId=10001&productId=168328&navigationPath=32009n32210n46120

Is that any good? I read it was one of the best, and I'd rather get a damn good one for the price they are selling them for these days :D

And my next question, how easy is it to back-up DVD movies? Is it like backing up a game? Because if it is then that sucks, I tried to backup my Diablo II but it doesn't really work. Having only the Play and Cinematic disks without the Install is pretty dumb.

Anyway... Just thought I'd check some stuff out before I go and buy one.

It's very easy to backup your DVD movies, much easier than games. (Copy protection in games range from Safedisc, SD2, SD3, SecuROM, etc, you don't have to deal with anything like this with DVD movies.)

You'll be able to find many tutorials to backup movies at www.doom9.org (http://www.doom9.org) and www.videohelp.com (http://www.videohelp.com)

Earlier on, there was the + vs - war for the media type. Both had their advantages, and disadvantages, but nowadays it's not as important, because most burners are dual format, meaning they will burn both + and - media :)

+ media tends to be more expensive, but better quality, and - is cheaper.

I've used both and have had good luck with each type.
I mostly stick with DVD-R 4x Ritek media, and it's worked excellent for me. (Ritek and Princo are some of the best media avaialble, but you'll be paying extra for the premium)

The actual burning is very easy though, trust me. I wrote a couple of step by step tutorials, and I'll give them to you later :)

The problem with that is the blank media ;)

Same as Plextors 12x drive, and the Sony DRU700A with its 8.5 GB media...Right now the media for these drives is quite expensive, and the burnig speed for the 8.5 GB meda takes about an hour.

Alright, thanks :D I'm sure I'll have some more questions later, or tomorrow :D
