Recovering (some) data from a backup

We had someone hack into our forums and remove all the posts from a certain poster. This obviously removes certain threads and posts from within other threads.

We have a backup from before when this was done and obvioulsy our current database.

Are there any suggestions as to how we might recover the lost data and has anyone sucessfully done this sort of action?

Probably by studing how the database works manually, manually finding the deleted posts and manually restoring them. It could take months and really isn't worth the effort.

if backup is recent i.e. 1-3 days old, you might want to revert to older database and loose 1-3 days of posts
