Hi Support,

I installed successfully my new VB 3.0.1.

I decided to import my PHPBB 2.0.4 forum.

The import seemed to work fine. almost 115000 posts imported, 6000 users, 8000 thread.

I got 2 "failed" during the Poll import.

Now, the imported phpBB menbers can long on to the VB forum.

The problem is: The imported thread, posts are not displayed on the VB forum home page.

A basic search in database neturns nothing...

Any idea ?

Thanks in advance for your answer.

After you have updated your counters like the previous poster suggested and still don't see your posts, try to change your forum's "default view age"

go to the admincp -> "forums & moderators" -> "forum manager" -> choose "edit forum" for one of your forums and then change the default view age.

Thank you both for your replies.

Yes "Dream On", none of the forums, threads and posts were showing on the forum home page.

As you suggested, I went to Import & Maintenance/Update Counters (http://forum.h2kmatrix.com/H2kMatrixAdmin/misc.php?do=chooser) and updated your User and threads, and this fixed the problem. Thank you.

I'm going to play with it and see whether or not I should migrate to VB. I've been using phpbb for a while. I'm used to it.

Thank you again for your help.

So why did you buy a license if you haven't decided to migrate to vB?

VB is not a shareware as far as I know. So the only way for me to try it out with the Import was to get a license.

I have some concerns on some points with phpbb where I believe VB should be better. On the other hand, I'm used to some flexibility in tems of administraion that I hope I will also find on VB.

A basic search in database neturns nothing...

Could you elaborate on that a bit ?

Do you mean that the import runs and it appears to work but there is nothing in the database ?

Maybe he/she got to rebuild the search index?

Jerry,

The Import ran successfully. All the users, forums, threads, and posts were in the VB database. But when I loaded the VB forum homepage, none of the forums (and threads) appeared. As you have read, the fix is to go to Import & Maintenance/Update Counters (http://forum.h2kmatrix.com/H2kMatrixAdmin/misc.php?do=chooser) and update your User and threads.

Still, until now, a basic search with a keyword always returns "no match...".

Still testing.

siley.

That's because, as I mentioned two posts above, you need to rebuild your search index (most probably). You'll find the option in your ACP -> Import & Maintenance/Update Counters.

Thanks mOdEtWo for the suggestion. I will give a try tonight, as my site is live, I don't want to harm the server at this time by building indexes.

I will update the thread as soon as it is done.

Ok, good luck. I thing that does the trick, since you don't have anything in your search index after an import. It has to be rebuld before it can be searched.

Also go into the Forum Manager and check the the display order is corrent and if the "Main Forum", the one that is in their by default is there, remove it.

I usually write the importers to import with the display order of the forums that are being imported, which are usually lower than the default Main Forum in the display order.

I've always left it that way then cleared it up afterwards, I was thinking of trying to merge or delete Forums, but then the importer might be merging a board into an existing vB3 board so I left it as its a small job to sort it out afterwards.
