View Full Version : Will the importers ever work?

Hi!
I have raised 2 or 3 support tickets about problems with importing from phpBB2.
The only problem that was solved was with all users being imported.
Now I wait for PMs, I wait for bbcode to work and for active users to show up in forum view.
None of my problems have been solved. Where is the quick support VBulletin is supposed to give? Why the importers were released without testing? The only reason I bought VB3 is that I can transfer from phpBB2. I paid and now I can do nothing.
I tried to be patient having read about the great support here in VB3 before posting such a thread.
However I have been reading Jerry's sticky about phpbb2 progress. No news in the last 2 days. And no emails are coming any more from the support team to answer my problems.

At this time Jerry is the only one that can help sort out the import issues and by everything I've seen he is doing this as quickly as he can. The phpBB imports have worked for a large number of people.

Hi!
I know Jerry is the only one working with this. But as a customer I do not "care" if it is only one person working. When you buy a product for what it advertises you expect to get what you pay for. If there is only one person working with an issue, this is not what a customer wants to hear. He wants to hear that his problems are solved. I speak from exprerience since I have worked for software houses as a programmer (C++) and now I'm an IT manager. We don't tell our customers that we have only one person working on their problems as an excuse of a delay. We say that we are doing our best to fix it.
Anyway.
For those that have successfuly imported from phpBB2, I would say that they don't care about wrong PMs transfered and Active user display error in forum view. These problems are common to everyone and have been recognized as such by Jerry. If those people can live with that it doesn't mean that they have made a successful import.
Regards,
nektarios.

It's not just that Jerry is the only one working on this, he is, in fact, the only one that can work on this. I understand and sympathize with your frustration and I'm sorry if this is not what you want to hear, but it's the truth. And I always prefer telling our customers the truth instead of lying or b.s.ing them.
And to my knowledge Jerry has stated in many places that he is doing his best to fix any problems reported. Is that not the case? What is the issueid of your support ticket?

Hi!
I never doubted that Jerry is doing his best to fix things and I appreciate that. I'm just saying that I see a delay and this is caused because too many importing scripts are being worked out at the same time instead of one at time (my opinion)
I appreciate that you speak the truth but from a customer point of view this does not make things any better for me.
As I said in another post, I decided to write a thread complaining because I have seen no progress for phpbb2 the last two days.
The support tickes I have raised.

By the way I edited your support numbers. Please don't include the complete string since this gives people access to your tickets. Only post the issueid.
The first two show that Jerry is working on these problems with you. The third one has to do with a non-import issue. I have been trying to find out why the 'viewing' feature is not working on your forums but have been unable to find the cause. I have requested further help from the other support teram members but no one has been able to offer a reason why this isn't working on your forums. I have kept that ticket open as a reminder to continue looking.

For Active users please read this.

It is an importer error.
Bug has been reported (2786)
So it is everything about the importers. I'm not the only one having these problems.

I never said you were the only one having problems.

Today is the 26th. Jerry has not changed phpbb2 import status since 21st.
May I ask why is this taking so long? How long more am I going to wait? Please let me know.
I have already started solving problems myself by custom fixes. I have even started working on PMs :D
Seriously now, I believe that the existing problems with phpbb2 importer are simple to correct and I don't understand why it is taking so long.
I would like to hear about the progress that it has been made, if this is OK.
Thank you for your time,
Nektarios.

Because there are so many to do and I do other things as well, I'm back on phpBB today.

OK! Shall we forget it then?
I mean waiting another month for the importers that already have been released to work does not make any sense. Does it?
At least an estimation of time needed would be nice to have since decisions have to be made if we are going to move to VB3 or not.

Nektarios.
