Better mass mailing

I think it would be nice to have a more advanced system for mass mailing members. Recently a friend who has over 60,000 members on his board wanted to send out a mass mail. Even with the delay per page can you imagine how long he'd have to leave this on for?

I think the whole system needs to be reworked to account for larger forums instead of smaller forums. Perhaps it sends out a batch of 10,000 over the course of 24 hours. One every minute via the cron job. Either way a batch system is needed.

Does anyone know of any server based mailing software that can interface with a mysql database such as vbulletin and send to the 'outsourced' list? I think you're best of with dedicated piece of sofware, but you just need someway of linking it to vb. Suggestions, please? I'm currently trying to get oemPro to work with vB, but it's proving rather problematic! :(
