I am another one of the people who VO is kicking out because I am using too much resources on their shared server. They recommend that I go to one of their Dedicated servers. My question is, do I need to?

My max bandwidth usage was 17 GB a month.
I currently have disc usage of 403 mb with 348 of that being Mysql disc usage.
I average about 5.5 million hits a month but have gone over 6 million before.
estimating an average about 50-60 users at any given time online.

If I am still considered small enough for a shared server, what hosting company would you recommend?

If I need a dedicated server, or am on the verge of needing one, which would you recommend?

I don't have the slightest clue on how to research this problem, so rather than make an uneducated guess, I decided to come here and get opinions from people who know that the hell they're talking about ;) :D

An average of 50-60 users online at one time means that many times you have more than this amount. I would say based on this that you need at least a semi-dedicated server. I believe most hosts would consider this too busy for a shared server.

our site WebDogPro geta about 4-6 million hits a month 200,000 page veiws a month and have a average of 50-150 online at any time we where on a shared box (dont ever use kaphost) they never complaned but last month we decided to get our own server. And the site is much faster now.

and hen we bught a dedicated server for our hosting clients. dont be cheap with out good hosting your site will suffer, we lost about $800 one week casue kaphost was down.

its worth the $99 a month for our colo and $149 a month for the dedicated box.

if you got a popular site get your own server!!!

Now, I am not about to go off on one, but quite franlky you are talking our of your rear end there.

I believe they have at least 700 clients and many more www sitres - and have so far lost none of them.
They do have a Datacentre
They do have support - excellent support at that
Post about your own ISP/Host sure.. but before you go about bashing others in an immature, irresponsible manner - make sure you get your facts right yeah.

Sorry Mods!
Smallorange is to expensive for me and only 1 year in business (as far as I know). Don't have any problem with them but why order a 7.5GB HD/150Gb bandwidth on shared server for 40$ when you can have your own dedicated server with 60GB HD/700 GB bandwidth for 49$ ??

You could try http://www.server4you.com/us/ or http://order.1and1.com/xml/order/Server or http://www.valueweb.com/dedicated/dedicated-servers/redhat.htm or http://www.superbservers.net/services/promo_sds.php

Sure... that's a very valid point, and if that was posted by dndog in his/her above thread wouldn't have prompted my response.

I've cleaned up this thread. Please take the Host Wars to another forum.
