I've been a mod on two message boards that was powered by something like vb, all others were free places like ezboard.com.

I'm considering adding a vb powered forum to my website, but I will need to move the whole site to a host that allows php (right now I'm getting free space from geocities). Before I start saving money to purchase a vb license, I have a couple of questions:

1.) What are a few good cost-efficient hosts that work well with vb?
2.) Do I need to have any kind of special Internet access? That is, will I need my computer to be signed on all the time, or can everything work off of the hosting server?

I've been a member at a forum that uses vb (see signature), and I've really grown to like vb.

I use this one:

http://www.imagelinkusa.net

Very cheap, and very good. My board gets around 500 posts a day and ran for 18 months on XMB before changing to vBulletin. They have coped with both just fine.

Thanks, but how about question two? Will my computer need to be online all the time?

@ question 2: online all the time? No. The files are stored somewhere else (your host) so you don't need to be online.
