I just got my web-site up last saterday. Sill in the begining stages though. I'm currently running PHPBB

Anywase here are my questions:

1. how easy would it be to install VB over PHPBB and would I be able to keep all users and posts or would they get deleted?

2. does VB come with every thing installed like the file attach mod, etc. I know PHPBB doesn't and I can't figure out how to install it

Thanks to all

There is an import script for vB2 and vB3 to import your users posts and threads to vB if you want to. If you dont you can just install vB3 and run from there.

vBulletin 3 and 2 has lets you attach files by default, there is no modfication needed.

So how does that mod work and how much time will it take? I'm pretty new to these bullittin boards and stuff. :)

If you want to test

And make a new thread, you should be able to attach up to five things per post, this is a settable option in the AdminCP

Honestly, ive never done an import, but the script it self shouldnt take too long, however im not sure if you would bring your attachments over becasue it was a hack.

so is the importer a hack that I have to put codes in or is it like a program that runs auto.

I'm just new to this and I didn't want to purchase, and not be able to install/tranfer old files.

you upload an import script and then run it. the whole thing takes like 2 minutes, especially since your forums are new, there won't be much to import (i assume:D )

Cool as long as the installation is pain free thats cool. I had a heck of a time with PHPBB since I didn't know anything about creating an MYSQL database, but I finally got it after a couple hours.

for vB its making a database configuring one file and then going to the install file, and its basicly just clicking buttons after :)

how about adding smilies to the forum? you see where you they are located right now when you reply. My smilies are a little bigger, is their anyway to add like 25 more smilies to the list? PHPBB lets you add all of them. It puts a little button down at the bottom of the smilie box that says "More Smilies" then it opens in a seperate window.

Yes, you can add additional smilies to vB from within the Admin CP.

I'll talk to the other administrator of the site and see if he wants to do this so we can get away from PHPBB. ;)
