I have a user base of 1,200 users with over 90,000 posts. I want to switch to vB 3.0.0 as I hate phpBB2 2.0.6 but I will only do it if I'm sure I can import the users, topics, posts, polls, categories, and forums. Is there an importer for me? How much will it cost? Can I do it myself with a script or is it a service provided by Jelsoft? I am a serious customer with credit card in hand ready to purchase vB 3.0.0 tonight online. Thanks!

Please read this announcement concerning importing your data into vB3:

http://www.vbulletin.com/forum/showthread.php?t=99626

Currently the import scripts for vB2 are still available in the Members Area. However if it were me I'd wait for the vB3 script which should be available next week.

Okay, so here's my dumb follow-up question:

If I am unable to import my standard phpBB2 2.0.6 data into vB3, can I get a refund on the purchase of vB3?

We will guarantee your phpBB data will be imported. It ain't that hard.

Wow. That's great! Now I'm really interested :)

I'm just learning about two other mods elsewhere: vBadvanced and Photo Post Pro

After all my questions are answered, I'll be ready to move my site, http://www.memphisracingscene.com to a better forum software.

I purchased vB3 only to discover that there is a backlog on getting databases converted. Ouch! Its a cool system, just gotta wait until the new announcement for conversions comes out.

Even if we have a slightly modified phpBB database? This is due to the fact my forum is heavily modded, and additional columns are added to the tables.

Most likley those extra tables will be dropped as the importer just takes certain data from your phpbb DB.

Hacked databases may present a problem. Obviously we cannot guarantee to import the hacked data. I'll let Jerry answer this in more detail.

Steve,

If the only additions to a standard phpBB2 database were completely seperate tables in the DB, should we leave them or remove them before turning in our phpBB2 database to vBulletin for importation?

I don't think the import script will do anything with those separate tables.

Excellent.

Okay, another import question:

When you do an import from phpBB2.0.6 to vBulletin 3.0.0, does it import the forum names or do you need to setup the forum names beforehand in your vBulletin database? Does it import security? What measures/procedures/adjustments should I make, if any, to my phpBB2.0.6 installation to prepare it for an import?

The importers have always handled all this data and I'm sure the vB3 ones will as well. I've never had to prepare a phpBB database for import.

I hope the importer for phpBB 2.0.6 to vBulletin 3.0.0 comes out soon. My web site has over 1,100 users and nearly 100,000 posts, so we can't use vBulletin 3.0.0 until we have an import of our existing data. Can't wait to see the importer!

As I noted earlier the vB2 import script has been available all along. There was the option to install vB2, import, then upgrade to vB3.
